Advocacy Visit To Schools In Lagos State To Create Awareness On Rape

Partnership for Justice organized series of advocacy visits to different public schools in the state to create awareness about rape and sexual assault and services provided at the Mirabel Centre.

Data/statistics at the centre showed that over 80% of the survivors of rape and sexual assault are within the ages of 11-15.

This information led to a massive advocacy and awareness of rape and sexual assault in schools within Lagos State and its environs.

The advocacy team was made up of the Managing Partner, the Programme Officer, the Centre Manager and all staff of the SARC.  Publicity materials such as posters and stickers were presented and distributed among the schools. About 30 schools in Ikeja, Kosofe, Maryland, Oshodi, Agege, Ojota, Ojodu, and Iju LGA/LCDAs were visited.

During the visit, the team met with some of the teachers who were trained by Partnership for Justice as community monitors and equipped with skills to identify signs and symptoms of rape and sexual assault in school children and their immediate environment.
